4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
4:1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

4:2 that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
4:2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

4:3 For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:
4:3 For the time already past is sufficient [for you] to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousals, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.

4:4 wherein they think strange that ye run not with (them) into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of (of):
4:4 And in [all] this, they are surprised that you do not run with [them] into the same excess of dissipation, and they malign [you];

4:5 who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
4:5 but they shall give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

4:6 For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
4:6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to [the will of] God.

4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer:
4:7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober [spirit] for the purpose of prayer.

4:8 above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:
4:8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

4:9 using hospitality one to another without murmuring:
4:9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint.

4:10 according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;
4:10 As each one has received a [special] gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

4:11 if any man speaketh, (speaking) as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, (ministering) as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
4:11 Whoever speaks, [let him speak,] as it were, the utterances of God; whoever serves, [let him do so] as by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you:
4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;

4:13 but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.
4:13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation.

4:14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed (are ye); because the (Spirit) of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.
4:14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.

4:15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters:
4:15 By no means let any of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;

4:16 but if (a man suffer) as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name.
4:16 but if [anyone suffers] as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify God.

4:17 For the time (is come) for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if (it begin) first at us, what (shall be) the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?
4:17 For [it is] time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if [it begins] with us first, what [will be] the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

4:18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?
4:18 AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?

4:19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator.
4:19 Therefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
