3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
3:1 보라, 아버지께서 어떠한 사랑을 우리에게 주셔서 우리로 하나님의 아들들이라 불리게 하셨는가. 그러므로 세상이 우리를 알지 못하나니 이는 세상이 그분을 알지 못했기 때문이라.
3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3:2 사랑하는 자들아, 이제는 우리가 하나님의 아들들이라. 우리가 어떻게 될 것인지는 아직 나타나지 아니하였으나 그가 나타나시면 우리가 그와 같이 되리라는 것을 아노니, 이는 우리가 그분 그대로 그분을 볼 것이기 때문이라.
3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
3:3 그분 안에서 이 소망을 가지는 사람은 누구나 그분이 정결하신 것처럼 자신을 정결케 하느니라.
3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
3:4 죄를 짓는 자마다 율법을 범하는 것이니, 죄는 곧 율법을 범하는 것이라.
3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
3:5 그분이 우리의 죄들을 없애려고 나타나신 것을 너희가 아나니 그분 안에는 죄가 없느니라.
3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
3:6 그분 안에 거하는 자마다 죄를 짓지 아니하나니, 죄를 짓는 자는 누구나 그분을 보지 못하였으며 알지도 못하였느니라.
3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
3:7 어린 자녀들아, 아무도 너희를 속이지 못하게 하라. 의를 행하는 자는 그분이 의로우신 것같이 의로우나
3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
3:8 죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 이는 마귀가 처음부터 죄를 짓기 때문이라. 이 목적으로 하나님의 아들이 나타나셨으니, 곧 마귀의 일들을 멸하시려는 것이라.
3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
3:9 하나님께로부터 태어난 사람은 누구나 죄를 짓지 아니하나니 이는 하나님의 씨가 그 사람 안에 거함이요, 또 죄를 지을 수 없는 것은 그가 하나님께로부터 태어났기 때문이라.
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
3:10 여기에서 하나님의 자녀와 마귀의 자녀가 드러나느니라. 의를 행하지 아니하는 자나 자기 형제를 사랑하지 아니하는 자는 누구나 하나님께 속하지 아니하니라.
3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
3:11 이는 너희가 처음부터 들은 말씀이 우리가 서로 사랑해야 한다는 것이기 때문이라.
3:12 Not as Cain, [who] was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
3:12 카인같이 되지 말라. 그는 악한 자로부터 나왔으며 자기 아우를 살해하였으니 무슨 연고로 그를 죽였겠느뇨? 이는 그 자신의 행위는 악하고 그 아우의 행위는 의로웠기 때문이라.
3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
3:13 나의 형제들아, 세상이 너희를 미워하여도 이상히 여기지 말라.
3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not [his] brother abideth in death.
3:14 우리가 사망으로부터 생명으로 옮겨간 것을 아노니, 이는 우리가 형제들을 사랑하기 때문이라. 자기 형제를 사랑하지 않는 자는 사망 안에 거하느니라.
3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
3:15 자기 형제를 미워하는 자는 누구나 살인자요, 살인자는 누구나 영원한 생명이 그의 안에 거하지 않음을 너희가 아느니라.
3:16 Hereby perceive we the love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren.
3:16 이로써 우리가 하나님의 사랑을 아노니, 이는 그 분이 우리를 위하여 자신의 생명을 내어 놓으셨음이라. 따라서 우리도 형제들을 위하여 우리의 생명을 내어 놓는 것이 마땅하도다.
3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion] from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
3:17 누가 세상의 재물을 가졌는데 자기 형제의 궁핍한 것을 알면서도 그를 도와 줄 마음을 닫으면 어찌 하나님의 사랑이 그 안에 거하겠느뇨?
3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
3:18 나의 어린 자녀들아, 우리가 말이나 혀로 사랑하지 말고 행동과 진리로 하자.
3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
3:19 이로써 우리가 진리에 속한 줄 알고 또 그 분 앞에서 우리의 마음을 확고히 하리라.
3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
3:20 이는 만일 우리 마음이 우리를 정죄한다면 하나님은 우리 마음보다 더 크시고 모든 것을 아시기 때문이라.
3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, [then] have we confidence toward God.
3:21 사랑하는 자들아, 만일 우리 마음이 우리를 정죄하지 아니하면 우리가 하나님 앞에서 담대함을 얻고
3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
3:22 무엇이든지 구하는 것을 그에게서 받나니, 이는 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키고 그의 목전에 기쁨이 되는 일들을 행함이라.
3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
3:23 그의 계명은 이것이니, 우리가 그의 아들 예수 그리스도의 이름을 믿고 그가 우리에게 주신 계명대로 서로 사랑하는 것이니라.
3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
3:24 그의 계명들을 지키는 사람은 그 분 안에 거하고 그 분은 그 사람 안에 거하시나니, 우리에게 주신 성령에 의하여 우리는 그 분이 우리 안에 거하시는 것을 아느니라.
3:1 보라, 아버지께서 어떠한 사랑을 우리에게 주셔서 우리로 하나님의 아들들이라 불리게 하셨는가. 그러므로 세상이 우리를 알지 못하나니 이는 세상이 그분을 알지 못했기 때문이라.
3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3:2 사랑하는 자들아, 이제는 우리가 하나님의 아들들이라. 우리가 어떻게 될 것인지는 아직 나타나지 아니하였으나 그가 나타나시면 우리가 그와 같이 되리라는 것을 아노니, 이는 우리가 그분 그대로 그분을 볼 것이기 때문이라.
3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
3:3 그분 안에서 이 소망을 가지는 사람은 누구나 그분이 정결하신 것처럼 자신을 정결케 하느니라.

3:5 그분이 우리의 죄들을 없애려고 나타나신 것을 너희가 아나니 그분 안에는 죄가 없느니라.
3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
3:6 그분 안에 거하는 자마다 죄를 짓지 아니하나니, 죄를 짓는 자는 누구나 그분을 보지 못하였으며 알지도 못하였느니라.
3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
3:7 어린 자녀들아, 아무도 너희를 속이지 못하게 하라. 의를 행하는 자는 그분이 의로우신 것같이 의로우나

3:8 죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 이는 마귀가 처음부터 죄를 짓기 때문이라. 이 목적으로 하나님의 아들이 나타나셨으니, 곧 마귀의 일들을 멸하시려는 것이라.

3:9 하나님께로부터 태어난 사람은 누구나 죄를 짓지 아니하나니 이는 하나님의 씨가 그 사람 안에 거함이요, 또 죄를 지을 수 없는 것은 그가 하나님께로부터 태어났기 때문이라.
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
3:10 여기에서 하나님의 자녀와 마귀의 자녀가 드러나느니라. 의를 행하지 아니하는 자나 자기 형제를 사랑하지 아니하는 자는 누구나 하나님께 속하지 아니하니라.
3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
3:11 이는 너희가 처음부터 들은 말씀이 우리가 서로 사랑해야 한다는 것이기 때문이라.
3:12 Not as Cain, [who] was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
3:12 카인같이 되지 말라. 그는 악한 자로부터 나왔으며 자기 아우를 살해하였으니 무슨 연고로 그를 죽였겠느뇨? 이는 그 자신의 행위는 악하고 그 아우의 행위는 의로웠기 때문이라.
3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
3:13 나의 형제들아, 세상이 너희를 미워하여도 이상히 여기지 말라.
3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not [his] brother abideth in death.
3:14 우리가 사망으로부터 생명으로 옮겨간 것을 아노니, 이는 우리가 형제들을 사랑하기 때문이라. 자기 형제를 사랑하지 않는 자는 사망 안에 거하느니라.
3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
3:15 자기 형제를 미워하는 자는 누구나 살인자요, 살인자는 누구나 영원한 생명이 그의 안에 거하지 않음을 너희가 아느니라.
3:16 Hereby perceive we the love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren.
3:16 이로써 우리가 하나님의 사랑을 아노니, 이는 그 분이 우리를 위하여 자신의 생명을 내어 놓으셨음이라. 따라서 우리도 형제들을 위하여 우리의 생명을 내어 놓는 것이 마땅하도다.

3:18 나의 어린 자녀들아, 우리가 말이나 혀로 사랑하지 말고 행동과 진리로 하자.
3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
3:19 이로써 우리가 진리에 속한 줄 알고 또 그 분 앞에서 우리의 마음을 확고히 하리라.
3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
3:20 이는 만일 우리 마음이 우리를 정죄한다면 하나님은 우리 마음보다 더 크시고 모든 것을 아시기 때문이라.
3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, [then] have we confidence toward God.
3:21 사랑하는 자들아, 만일 우리 마음이 우리를 정죄하지 아니하면 우리가 하나님 앞에서 담대함을 얻고
3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
3:22 무엇이든지 구하는 것을 그에게서 받나니, 이는 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키고 그의 목전에 기쁨이 되는 일들을 행함이라.
