8:1 O that thou [wert] as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! [when] I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.
8:1 Oh, that you were like my brother, Who nursed at my mother's breasts! If I should find you outside, I would kiss you; I would not be despised.

8:2 I would lead thee, [and] bring thee into my mother's house, [who] would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.
8:2 I would lead you and bring you Into the house of my mother, She who used to instruct me. I would cause you to drink of spiced wine, Of the juice of my pomegranate. (TO THE DAUGHTERS OF JERUSALEM)

8:3 His left hand [should be] under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.
8:3 His left hand is under my head, And his right hand embraces me.

8:4 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake [my] love, until he please.
8:4 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, Do not stir up nor awaken love Until it pleases. A RELATIVE

8:5 Who [is] this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth [that] bare thee.
8:5 Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning upon her beloved? I awakened you under the apple tree. There your mother brought you forth; There she who bore you brought you forth. THE SHULAMITE TO HER BELOVED

8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love [is] strong as death; jealousy [is] cruel as the grave: the coals thereof [are] coals of fire, [which hath a] most vehement flame.
8:6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.

8:7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if [a] man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
8:7 Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love All the wealth of his house, It would be utterly despised. THE SHULAMITE'S BROTHERS

8:8 We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?
8:8 We have a little sister, And she has no breasts. What shall we do for our sister In the day when she is spoken for?

8:9 If she [be] a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she [be] a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.
8:9 If she is a wall, We will build upon her A battlement of silver; And if she is a door, We will enclose her With boards of cedar. THE SHULAMITE

8:10 I [am] a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.
8:10 I am a wall, And my breasts like towers; Then I became in his eyes As one who found peace.

8:11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand [pieces] of silver.
8:11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon; He leased the vineyard to keepers; Everyone was to bring for its fruit A thousand silver coins. (TO SOLOMON)

8:12 My vineyard, which [is] mine, [is] before me: thou, O Solomon, [must have] a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.
8:12 My own vineyard is before me. You, O Solomon, may have a thousand, And those who tend its fruit two hundred. THE BELOVED

8:13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear [it].
8:13 You who dwell in the gardens, The companions listen for your voice--Let me hear it! THE SHULAMITE

8:14 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
8:14 Make haste, my beloved, And be like a gazelle Or a young stag On the mountains of spices.
