1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

1:2 And he said, Jehovah will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
1:2 And he said, "The LORD roars from Zion, And from Jerusalem He utters His voice; And the shepherds' pasture grounds mourn, And the summit of Carmel dries up."

1:3 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
1:3 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Damascus and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because they threshed Gilead with [implements] of sharp iron.

1:4 but I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.
1:4 "So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, And it will consume the citadels of Ben-hadad.

1:5 And I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith Jehovah.
1:5 "I will also break the [gate] bar of Damascus, And cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, And him who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden; So the people of Aram will go exiled to Kir," Says the LORD.

1:6 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gaza, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole people, to deliver them up to Edom:
1:6 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Gaza and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because they deported an entire population To deliver [it] up to Edom.

1:7 but I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
1:7 "So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza, And it will consume her citadels.

1:8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Jehovah.
1:8 "I will also cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, And him who holds the scepter, from Ashkelon; I will even unleash My power upon Ekron, And the remnant of the Philistines will perish," Says the Lord GOD.

1:9 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole people to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
1:9 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Tyre and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because they delivered up an entire population to Edom And did not remember [the] covenant of brotherhood.

1:10 but I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
1:10 "So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre, And it will consume her citadels."

1:11 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
1:11 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Edom and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because he pursued his brother with the sword, While he stifled his compassion; His anger also tore continually, And he maintained his fury forever.

1:12 but I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
1:12 "So I will send fire upon Teman, And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah."

1:13 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they may enlarge their border:
1:13 Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four I will not revoke its [punishment], Because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead In order to enlarge their borders.

1:14 but I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
1:14 "So I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah, And it will consume her citadels Amid war cries on the day of battle And a storm on the day of tempest.

1:15 and their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith Jehovah.
1:15 "Their king will go into exile, He and his princes together," says the LORD.
